In my past songs I avoided using the word “forever1” as much as I could, but I thought it could be used in this song. Within the heart lies love that always silently yearns and love that cannot end.
I sang while playing the piano to record this song.
Translation notes
1. In Japanese, the word is 永遠 (eien) which is an adjective used to describe something as “eternal”. The word is used in the last lines of verse 3 and 7.
Among the words that are hard to say, Elton John suggests that “sorry” seems to be the hardest word. Oku Hanako’s サヨナラは言わないまま (Sayonara wa Iwanai Mama) offers “goodbye” at the end of a relationship as a hard word. Even if she is able to say some words of farewell, the singer finds that within her the farewell and separation are not accepted easily. In her memories, the singer’s time with the listener remains clear. In her mind, the listener still appears from time to time. In her heart, the singer’s love for the listener continues to dwell. The singer feels that she must cast these aside for her “goodbye” to be honest and for her to accept the separation.

以往作的曲子都会尽量不用“永远”这个词、但觉得这首歌可以用一下。有在心中一直静静地喜欢的恋爱、也有无法结束的恋爱。
